Malteza_About.jpg

Malteza is a Portuguese designer brand, registered since 2021.

Our pieces are created for an audience that values difference, artistry, poetry, and identity. Malteza exists for those who see clothing as more than function, and who seek emotion and identity in what they wear.

We offer two distinct lines:

A conceptual line, where art meets fashion and boundaries no longer exist.
This is wearable art, free, bold, and unapologetically expressive.

And a ready-to-wear line, where everyday pieces are elevated through thoughtful details, becoming truly poetic and unique. Here, pattern making is carefully developed to ensure a perfect fit, always carrying the brand’s signature.

Malteza moves between design, emotion, and identity, shaping garments that carry meaning, presence, and feeling.

Heart made in Portugal

We are proud to be a Portuguese brand committed to transparency at every stage of our production process.

We prioritise fabrics produced in Portugal, supporting local industry and craftsmanship. When specific materials are not available locally, we carefully source them from trusted suppliers, ensuring the highest standards of quality.

The production of our pieces takes place both in our own atelier and in collaboration with certified Portuguese manufacturers. This approach allows us to maintain close control over the process while valuing local expertise and guaranteeing the quality of every product we create.

Sustainable practices

The fashion industry faces a significant challenge when it comes to waste. Approximately 10% of fabric is lost during the pattern-cutting process alone.

While some level of waste is inevitable, we believe it should never be ignored.

Guided by this principle, we developed an initiative aimed at reducing textile waste to near zero by giving new purpose to every remaining material: both fabric and thread.

All surplus materials generated in our atelier are carefully collected and repurposed into beds for rescued animals in shelters. Larger fabric pieces are used to create the outer structure, while smaller scraps and loose threads form soft filling.

In December 2025, we completed our first donation of animal beds to the RAVI Association in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, the hometown of our designer.

The designer

Joana Maltez is a Portuguese fashion designer that completed the fashion designer course at LSD (Lisbon School of Design) and a 4-year course at the Modatex center in fashion design as well.

She worked in an atelier in Eindhoven which allowed her to develop her skills in pattern making and sewing, as well as in understanding what a client wants the most.
The designer ́s inspirations are mostly baroque sculptures that she uses to explore not only sculptural shapes but also the textures trough fabric manipulations.

Joana had also participated in several competitions:

-Finalist at PFN (Portuguese Fashion News) 2021
-Top 10 finalists at Bloom (Portugal Fashion) 2021
